Sissi Abreu e Sou Brazil

sissi.jpg

A celebrity in her native Brazil, Sissi Abreu and her band, Sou Brazil brings the best of traditional and modern Brazilian jazz to the US. This is the real deal. From classic Bossa Nova to rousing Samba, her unique voice and spirit will touch your heart and make you want to dance. She is committed to bringing soul to the art of music, and she knows that the barrier of language is nothing when you work with the heart.

Sissi started singing professionally in Sao Paulo at 17. In a career spanning more than 20 years, she has worked with some of the best musicians in Brazil, as a songwriter and arranger, fronting small combos and big bands, on stage and in the studio. This six-piece group covers the classics like Corcovado, Wave and Brazilian Watercolors, and mixes them up with hits by contemporary artists including Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Zizi Posi, Marisa Monte and Djavan. And while the instrumentation is mostly acoustic, the music is electrifying. Perfect for festival shows, dinner shows, concert venues, corporate events and parties.

Three of the band’s members hold Masters Degrees in music, and all teach, compose, record and perform widely in the Denver area. Sissi Abreu, vocals, percussion Carmen Sandim, piano, backing vocals Jeremy Wendelin, flute, alto, tenor and soprano saxophone Eric Jim Ruberto, nylon string acoustic and electric guitar Michael Grimes, upright bass Orvel Ray Wilson, drums and percussion
